New Year, New Welcome E-Mail
If you weren't subscribed before, sorry, you're just gonna get the same post for now!
In spirit of taking back the internet and your own short attention span allow me to curate my back catalog, this time will be about reading.
Recommendations? Anyone?
Send me the last five books you've read and I'll give you a recommendation! You'll find in the next newsletter one recommendation for one of you.
Please send me an email to biancaoutsold@substack.com (subscribers only) with your five recent reads, name, and current hometown!
I read a book about bookselling and end up ranting about the vibes of bookstores.
I feel this more intensely (more na nga intensely pa) with Casa del Libro or FNAC branches in Alicante. Every single time I stand by the English Section, I stare eye-to-eye with rupi kapur, or a very disjointed collection of Harry Potter, or my personal favourite, books I've never heard of before with ridiculous titles like “Fuckboy”.
"Pockets” sounds like a great excuse to disguise my ADHD. I ramble about Natalie Goldberg's Writing Down The Bones, David Diop's Man Booker Prize Winning Book— At Night All Blood Is Black, and Rebecca Kuang's Babel.
Remember when I used to make collages for every post? This one is a fun review on Just Kids by Patti Smith, which somehow I thought of paralleling to Kanye West's documentary 'jeen-yuhs’.
A story of two kindred spirit complemented by a force of mutual tenderness, love, and support, it is an intimate look at the lives of Patti Smith's and Robert Mapplethorpe's in the 60s-70s influenced by sex, drugs, rock n roll in New York — they were at first Just Kids.
A call for you to read widely. (Lowkey these articles give me an ick now!)
Happy reading!
This is a fun and refreshing read, and honestly it's kinda inspiring to do on my own newsletter. I guess this is also me asking for permission to loosely adapt the concept of a new welcome email for the new year's :)
